Blender Procedural Glitter Material - Monster Mash 🧪🧌🧛‍♂️💀👻🦇🎊

This product contains a Blender material for procedurally-generated glitter in a custom-designed style: “Monster Mash”.

With this style, I wanted to incorporate the overall color aesthetic of the original art for the song “Monster Mash”, as well as capture the whimsical, colorful, tossed-around vibes of the characters in the art that has evolved from it since:

All of this leads into a procedural material with two main layers: A base glitter surface, and an overlay of larger, slightly jagged, confetti-like flakes.

The material is created as a custom node group — in order to be configured and customized along various parameters, and duplicated/extended to fit different needs.

As such, the included Blender file also contains some extra objects with duplicated materials demonstrating such tweaks:

  • The procedural material and its self-contained, customizable node tree.
  • A clean, well-architected tree of shader nodes that frequently includes frames and names describing their intent. 
  • A “studio” setup with lighting, multiple cameras, and multiple backdrop surfaces to experiment with.
  • An environment-lighting setup with multiple “World” configurations to experiment with — each using different images, HDRI, light strengths, blending techniques, etc.
  • A Compositor setup with utility node groups for background images and glare effects.
  • Extra objects demonstrating how the original material might be extended or modified with different input parameters to the root node tree.
• A collection of PNGs showcasing final renders.

📝 Usage Tips

This material was created for Blender's Cycles rendering engine. The Eevee engine doesn't support material displacements, so while the material will render in Eevee, the expected appearance can't be guaranteed.
